4 the Community

COMMUNITY LISTENING, ACTION & PROJECTS

St Mary’s has worked in partnership with 4thecommunity for four years.  4tc’s stated mission is:

”… to reduce social poverty and social exclusion, and make our community stronger by building resident’s confidence, knowledge, skills, and strengthening local support networks. We have a three pronged approach to educate individuals, assist families, and strengthen communities….”

Groups include the guitar workshop (local teenagers from age 11 upwards gain confidence by learning a skill),  two Yoga sessions, an Art and Craft group for homeless and vulnerable people, a youth justice group, a teaching group for English as a foreign language,  a women’s drama group,  and a mindfulness meditation group.

Big Lottery Heritage funding was received enabling 4tc to take on a project based on the idea of “loving the part of the earth we live on”, an archaeology and history project involving all parish and 4tc groups, a healthy mix of people from inside and outside the parish.

We also host two AA groups, one Narcotics Anonymous group and occasional 12 week courses for people in recovery from alcohol or drug addiction.
