Holy Week 2015 at St Mary’s RC Church Rhyl
Details of the main Holy Week services are listed below. Don’t forget on Saturday 28th March at 7:30pm, the Amici del Canto choir are in St Mary’s singing ‘For the Fallen’ by Edward Elgar. This is a great way to start Holy Week. Also, on Good Friday morning at 11:15am there is the Walk of Witness starting at Rhyl Town Hall. Then at 6:30pm on Good Friday evening, join us for Prayers around the Cross.
Mass of the Holy Chrism
All are welcome to attend the Mass of the Holy Chrism at Wrexham Cathedral on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm at which the Bishop will bless the new oils for parishes throught the Diocese of Wrexham – the whole of North Wales. The holy oils for Baptism, Confirmation and Healing are then brought back to the parish and displayed throughout the Holy Triduum.
The Mass of the Last Supper at 8:00pm on Thursday evening commemorates the initiation of the Eucharist through Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. This mass ends in silence and flows into a period of quiet prayer in the ‘Garden of Gethsemane’.
The Liturgy of the Cross, celebrated at 3:00pm on Friday afternoon is a beautiful ceremony remembering the Passion of the Lord. The altar is completely bare and a simple but striking liturgy, beginning and ending in complete silence, marks the solemn occasion.
Easter Vigil 2015:
On this night’s vigil, the greatest and most noble of all solemnities, the Church meditates on the great works God has done for his people and celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus, signifying the ultimate victory over sin and death.
During this service which starts at 8:00pm in Rhyl, the Easter Proclamation, the Exultet, is made, and the hymn Gloria in excelsis Deo is intoned whilst bells ring out. All who attend renew the promise of baptismal faith.
