Union of Catholic Mothers (UCM):

The Union of Catholic Mothers developed as an independent group from the Catholic Women’s League in 1913. We are a group of friendly, supportive like-minded women who work within our Parish to support the Parish Priest and the community. Our aim is to support family life through practical and spiritual help.

We enjoy many social activities together such as coffee mornings, safari suppers and outings. We also organise fund raising events such as the Christmas Bingo, and provide a Children’s Epiphany Party for all the children of the parish. We join in the organisation and running of parish events such as the Summer Fayre. Throughout October we meet together weekly to pray the Rosary.

We are part of the UCM Wales and join with other UCM groups throughout the diocese for meetings, retreats and social events.

St Margaret Clitherow, patron saint of the UCM, was born in 1556. Margaret became a Catholic in 1574 and from 1576 sheltered priests, trained on the Continent, so that they could celebrate Mass for Catholics in York.
