Lent 2015

Season of Lent

Lent is a time of preparation for one of the most important seasons of the Church’s year. Find out what YOU can do to help prepare for Easter.

Prayer

The Holy Father invites all Catholics to walk with him on a new path, to walk with mercy and compassion, to be more generous to others – to walk with God this Lent. Start this journey with prayer. “Walk with Me” booklets are available at the back of church to assist in daily prayer.

Readings

The weeks of Lent remind us to set aside some of the hectic business of daily life to spend some time in quiet reflection. Lent is a time of penitence, an introspective period allowing us to take stock of our own lives and prepare for the spiritual renewal that offers itself to us at Eastertide, if we are willing. Daily reflection on Bible readings is an ideal way to begin this process.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is on the 18th February and the (joyful) season of LENT begins with this day of loving God by fasting and abstaining from meat.

Lenten Reconciliation Services:

The Lenten Reconciliation Services will be held at St Mary’s on Wednesday 25th March at 7:00pm and Saturday 28th March at 10:30am.

Charity

Lenten alms giving goes to CAFOD this year. The Family Fast day is on Friday 27th February 2015.

Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can. (John Wesley)

Pope’s 2015 Lenten Message:

Lent is a time of renewal for the whole Church, for each communities and every believer. Above all it is a ‘time of grace’. God does not ask of us anything that he himself has not first given us. “We love because he first has loved us”. He is not aloof from us. Each one of us has a place in his heart. He knows us by name, he cares for us and he seeks us out whenever we turn away from him. (Read full article)
